The officer, whose name has not been released, was hospitalized in stable condition following the collision at Front Street and Hunting Park Avenue at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, police said.
According to Chief Inspector Scott Small, two officers on patrol spotted a white Honda that had been reported stolen in an armed carjacking on Sunday. They followed the vehicle as it became stuck in traffic at the intersection.
When one officer approached on foot, the driver reversed, striking the police car before making a sharp turn and hitting the officer, Small said.
"The driver put the stolen car in reverse and then struck the police vehicle and then made a right-hand turn and struck the police officer, causing the officer to roll up onto the hood of this Honda," said Small. "Then the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed, struck a civilian vehicle, causing the police officer to roll off the hood and onto the street."
The officer suffered scrapes and bruises and was released from the hospital after receiving treatment, police said.
The stolen Honda was later found unoccupied near 10th and West Ruscomb streets, according to authorities.
Investigators are now searching for a male and female suspect believed to have been inside the vehicle during the incident.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 215-686-TIPS.
